Condom Nation
Well, you can blame it on Oprah. Recently she did a show on bra sizes and how many women weren't wearing the right size. Ask any guy and they'd say to you...who cares. So, guys this one's for you. How do you choose the proper condom? Does it really make a difference and do you think it matters?
Despite all the puppy dog looks and the single guys complaining that they just don't "get any", it is estimated that 5,000,000,000 condoms are used every year worldwide. Somebody's getting some. Perhaps your problem isn't getting it...its finding it; the right condom that is. Well, it stands to reason why you may be having a hard time picking the right one. There are over 100 different brands of condoms on the market.
Find your soulmate on Swirlr
The reason to use one is simple, condoms are the only form of protection that can be used to help stop the transmission of STDs and prevent pregnancy. The thing to keep in mind is that about 99% are made of latex. Latex can not be used with oil based lubricants like Vaseline or cold creams because they break down the latex. There are also condoms that are made of lamb intestines or polyurethane for those that have an allergic reaction to latex.
The cool thing about condoms is that like bra's they come in different shapes and sizes and colors. But, unlike the bra, you can even get your condoms flavored. There's regular shaped, form fitting, and flared. Ribbed condoms provide a little extra ribbing or bumps that increase the sensation when used.
Who knew shopping for condoms could be so much fun. Of course the type of condom that you use is totally up to you. The important thing is to buy them and use them. Here's another interesting fact: Women purchase around 60% of the condoms. Maybe that number would be higher for guys if they had to go to the child support office?!
The advantages of using a condom include of course they help prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections, it's a perfect birth control for men, you can buy them easy and cheap without the need for a prescription, there's no side effects, they are easy to use and does not affect your ability to re-produce at a later day and time. Not only that, your average condom can hold about 4 quarts of milk...that's a lot of dairy!
Now that sounds like a fun game...take your partner out condom shopping and try many different brands and styles. Tell them it's all in the interest of science.
This is Leticia...asking is that a magnum in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

When I first seen this blog I said to myself, "All the guys are going to post on how BIG the condom needs to be for them". I was right. Many men cannot stand talking about how "big" they are. I always laugh.

I agree Annon. Its hard to believe that this day in age and in this country people still think they can tell who s clean and who s not just by looking at them. That kind of ignorance can be deadly.

Condom or no condom that is the question... wow i dont think i ever heard so many ignorant people all together at the same time. You dont just get STD's (or STI's) from sexual intercource. There was awhile back a LARGE outbreak of herpes in the wrestling communtity in Minnesota. Mainly the in the High School in a couple communities. It was so bad that they cancelled many wrestling meets and it made the news. And how did they all come to be infected? Think 1000's of sweaty bodies rolling around on wrestling mats that hadnt been cleaned or sterlized since they first bought them for the school. Now there are 1000's of people walking around with active herpes infections on there body (theres a difference between this and genital herpes, but its still a strain of herpes) there is NO cure for herpes your stuck with it for life... but on a possitive note unlike HIV/AIDS it wont kill you. just think of it as the GIFT that keeps giving. And as far as the comment about "classy upscale women" like was mentioned before how you know she didnt contract it through a transfusion? This is 2007 people and we are NOT a third world country with no SEX EDUCATION, or the proper "supplies" to keep from spreading disease. MOST OF ALL COMMUNICATE... if they dont insist on using a condom maybe thats a clue to you something may or could be wrong. I dont care how good the sex is... is it REALLY worth dying for: Strap up each and everytime... even if your married... you never know if your husband/wife has cheated, is cheating, or who they were with before you!!!!

Condoms are necessary because too many pople do not take good care of themselves. and just because they look good dont mean they are safe.. if more people would be honest about their peronal habits, i think it would make the experience better and less tense. now what they need to do is make some for those that are "allergic" to latex.. now thats a problem.

I can't believe what I am about to say. Condoms are not important to me because I do not sleep around. Whenever I find the girl for me then we would have no use for them as long as no cheating is involved. Then again if cheating was involved I still wouldn't need condoms because she would be outta here.

It's too risky and scary today to not use protection.

It's very frightening to continue to hear or read comments by people who choose not to wear condoms. As clean and respectable as a person may seem, it only takes one partner, one time, to contract an STI. It reminds me of that old myth that a woman can't get pregnant the first time she has sex. This very ignorance is the reason STIs and HIV/AIDS cases persist. We have to stop thinking that we are invincible to the risks of unprotected sex. And besides, even if someone has a clean health history, why take the risk of an unwanted pregnancy? The other thing I find amazing about men who make excuses about condoms is the size issue. Please-there are companies who have responded to that "problem" by creating larger condoms. Having had this experience, I KNOW there are condoms that fit everyone. And being allergic to latex myself, I have had to go above and beyond to find protection that is suitable for me and my partner. There's no excuse. You may not have respect for yourself, but the least you can do is respect the other person and reduce the risks of becoming another statistic.

I recently took a scroll through the condom section of a store and I was shocked! They had several brands and types within brands. I've also learned there are brands that are popular with urban youth, yet not sold in many stores.

UUUMmmmm.... can all the men who don't use condoms stand up?? Now just walk out of the room... I like Hanko's idea myself--lol!! Clean and upscale does not in any way mean disease free!! I lived in some affluent areas in my state and as a teen I found out the upper class teens I was in school with were passing herpes to one another... glad I held my virginity until after high school!!

If the problem is finding the right condom that feels right then buy a variety of different kinds. Try each one out and see which one feels the best, but use one. HIV and STD's is no joke, a rubber or a pine box you make the choice.

Who says that bra's do not come in flavors like condoms do???? As far as I know they have bras and panties that you can eat.... On the other side you should never, ever wear two condoms at once, research proves that they are more likely to break that way.

simple.... ladies, just put the condom in your mouth.....roll it down over top his penis not using your hands....and he's not going to complain about using a condom...push-roll it with your lips, fit it to him using your tongue...etc, etc, etc.... Guys, if she doesn't get the idea, help guide her :)

Just so you know... being "upscale and clean and intelligent about their bodies" (whatever that means) has nothing to do with whether a person has a disease. Don't kid yourself; you can't tell by looking at a person. Just admit that you're basically playing Russian roulette with sex. Besides, you have no idea whether the last person your partner slept with was clean, or the last person that person slept with... and so on.

the biggest problem with condoms is somewhat related to size; its being being able to roll them down with no hassle. Problems can get everyone out of the mood

"Buck"....Ya know the saying "don't judge a book by its cover?" I think that applies here: "So I try to date only women who are upscale and clean and intelligent about their bodies! Also I look for women who are not always changing partners 3 times a day !" Common sense would be a good idea too!

This comment is for Buck...your theory on the class of women you choose to have sex with is pure ignorance! Did you ever hear of AIDS through a transfusion maybe? She may have been clean and classy, or never even had sex, but your lack of reality gave it to you too!!!! THINK ABOUT THAT ONE!!

It's worse than picking breakfast cereal. It's easier for me, since I'm on the larger size which cuts the choices dramatically. I hate condoms which are too small - ouch ...
